L’apprentissage informel, souvent inconscient, se produit à travers nos expériences quotidiennes, comme lorsque nous apprenons notre langue. Il est présent dans tous les contextes, mais ce que nous apprenons n’est pas toujours utile ou positif. Parfois, ce type d'apprentissage peut conduire à des comportements conformistes, voire régressifs comme le racisme ou le sexisme, selon Rogers, dans son ouvrage de 2014, The Base of the Iceberg: Informal Learning and Its Impact on Formal and Non-formal Learning. Il est donc important de créer des contextes qui encouragent un apprentissage critique, fondé sur la rationalité, comme le propose Habermas. Face à la désinformation et autres menaces pour la réflexion.et la formation, les bibliothèques publiques jouent un rôle central dans la promotion de cet apprentissage fondé sur des bases vérifiées et rationnelles, selon l’UNESCO. Ce travail analyse l’impact éducatif des bibliothèques sur l’apprentissage informel, en se basant sur des enquêtes réalisées en Corse et au Québec, deux contextes comparés pour mieux comprendre les pratiques sociales et éducatives.

Informal learning, often unconscious, occurs through our daily experiences, such as when we learn our language. It is present in all contexts, but what we learn is not always useful or positive. Sometimes, this type of learning can lead to conformist or even regressive behaviors like racism or sexism, according to Rogers in his 2014 book, The Base of the Iceberg: Informal Learning and Its Impact on Formal and Non-formal Learning. Therefore, it is important to create contexts that foster critical learning based on rationality, as proposed by Habermas. In the face of misinformation and other threats to critical thinking and education, public libraries play a central role in promoting this kind of learning grounded in verified and rational knowledge, according to UNESCO. This work analyzes the educational impact of libraries on informal learning, based on surveys conducted in Corsica and Quebec, two contexts compared to better understand social and educational practices.
